Always Humble

 

 

Hashem, the Benevolent One, saw the way little David cared for all the sheep with such compassion and how faithfully he worked for his father. So Hashem, Who wanted the Jewish people to have a compassionate leader, would eventually choose David, the faithful shepherd, to become the leader of His chosen people, who would be like a holy flock. Hashem knew that of all those in David’s generation, there was no one else who would be as caring a leader as David. Only David would be able to lead the Jews with such compassion. He was the only one who had the true qualities of a caring leader.

 

And that’s just what happened. As you will see later in this book, even when David the shepherd boy became a great and famous king, he always remained humble and simple. He never stopped being considerate and compassionate. He cared about poor people and provided them food and clothing. King David opened soup kitchens to feed the needy for free. He donated his own money to orphans and widows, and he always helped those in need.

 

Most importantly, David taught us how to get closer to Hashem. He taught us to pray for whatever we need, so that we’d build a firm and steady trust in Hashem. He taught us to walk in the path of repentance and good deeds, in the path of emuna,and to follow Hashem’s commandments.

 

This is the Path of Life!
