Yet another winner "Weapons of Mass Distraction" — Brilliant! I totally agree with everything you said, especially about TV. I remember when Bart Simpson and Married with Children came out and people complained about the rudeness of the children and the bad examples, and I was like, "You guys are so uptight; you're just looking to repress everybody. What rudeness?" It's not like I thought the chutzpah was okay, I honestly did not consider it chutzpah or rudeness, just clever and funny. Then I saw clips of those same shows after I hadn't seen TV for years, and I was absolutely horrified. It was all so rude and depraved! "How can people watch this," I thought, "and especially let their children watch this?" I couldn't believe I'd ever found it normal and even laudable. By the way, I have been waiting for an Eighties comeback. Aside from atrocious things like miniskirts, blue mascara, and neon, it was a time when long flowing skirts, shirts, and other tsnius clothing could be found in abundance. Right now, even stores in chareidi neighborhoods carry very little that is actually tsnius. But I understand your basic point. And I agree.
