Yehoshua ben Nun I had the merit to visit the grave of Yehoshua ben Nun on Tuesday night. He is buried in the Arab village of Kifl Hareth (Haris). This is a village that is supposedly meant to be under Israeli control. However, the Hamas flags fly freely there and the Jewish visitors are only allowed in under vigilant army control. The soldiers are dressed for combat and one senses how volatile things could be become. There was a bunch of Arab youths aged about 15 sitting around and their lack of fear for the combat ready soldiers was obvious. (The only nervous ones were the soldiers). Not only were the Arab youth fearless – but they were noticeably provocative with their behavior. As I was cautiously walking through the village – I pondered on the fact that I have lost my Tzelem Elokim. If it had been Yehoshua ben Nun walking through – they would have run and never returned.

Compassion, not judgment 'Gay' people are at higher risk of suicide than straight people, particularly when they are young. Some of the people with same-sex attraction were sexually abused children; some are genetically not purely male or female. There is some mention in the Talmud about male souls in a female body or female souls in a male body; you would have better training at finding the exact text than I do. Why not encourage compassion for people with same sex attraction, and an end to bullying?
