You show unusually astute insight into what the video games really are, Eric7. Also, your idea of putting a "mezuzah" on your computer is spot-on.

To the author: This article broke my heart. I really wish you all complete liberation from this terrible yetzer hara. I faced motorcycle "addiction." It took a nearly fatal accident to break my son from it. Others suffer serious injury or even death. But a knowledgeable person pointed out to me how video game addiction is even worse. I agree.

I was an adult into gaming. I used it to escape and cope with life for two years. What saved me was Hashem broke my computer.I was forced to live in this world.Thank you Hashem.I still dream about playing when my life is too stressful. I suggest treating it like any other addiction…the urge never goes away I know I have limit my computer time and a no games rule. Rabbi Twersky has some great 12 step books.

role-playing games My heart is with you; may the L-rd deliver David and make him, like his namesake, a man after G-d’s own heart.

Not Fun and Games My heart goes out to the entire family. Parents would be wise to listen to the voice of this family’s experience. No one is immune to internet/online game addictions.

I would hope that the family, in addition to pursuing out-patient treatment, would also check in-patient treatment facilities such as Retorno.

Computers need mezuzot too. A computer is a gateway to my house. The wallpaper on my computer desktop is an image of a mezuzah scroll which I am able to read. It reminds me to watch what is before my eyes.
(sorry I am not entirely on topic here but I hope this helps someone.)

May HaShem deliver your son. From my personal experience with video games I believe that G-D hates these video games that teach virtual idolatry and a disregard for life.
Virtually serving demons in a game has the potential to attach a person’s soul to very real evil. The violence and rage of your son testifies to this.
Only a love for Hashem Goelenu can save from this.
I was convicted to destroy my warcraft, diablo and starcraft games because they were antithetical to the values I strive to adopt from Torah.

Rabbi Nachman tells us to look for the good point in other people, in his lesson of AZAMRA, and this can totally turn around their situation from bad to good…
I was amazed to see that your son still keeps Shabbat!!!!!! That he actually agrees NOT to play on Shabbat is an incredible, wonderful, holy, righteous, selfless act of Kiddush Hashem!!!!!!!
Thanking HAshem for this good point in him may very well work miracles…. Bless you both, Amen.
