Subject of blasphemy The definition of blasphemy, seems to be the most complex. It has been a blessing to see this subject discussed, and I hope will be elaborated on, in the future. I have a friend who uses HaShems name in vain when he sees injustices done in this world, and I have told him that this is a form of blasphemy, but he does not agree, but explains that rather it is evil done in Hashems Name.

attempt at an answer I’m not sure if that is blasphemy. But I can tell you that the Orthodox rabbis from whom I have learned are extremely careful to not use any of the names of God unless they are using it for a very specific and appropriate purpose. They have taught very clearly that one should not flippantly say, “Oh G-d..” etc. the way we are so used to in casual conversation.
So that’s part of an answer. Hope that helps.

clarify blasphemy What about if your intent is not blasphemy, however using God’s name has become part of speech, habit almost. Let’s say something goes wrong and the first thing out of your mouth is “oh God”. Is it ever okay to say “God” in normal conversation.?
