One day, little Nachman heard that the Chassidim were planning a trip to the great tzaddik of that generation, Rebbe Yaakov Yosef of Pollnoi. Although he was only five years old, little Nachman yearned to see Rebbe Yaakov Yosef in person.

"Please, please take me with you!" pleaded little Nachman to the Chassidim. "I want to see the holy Rebbe Yaakov Yosef so very much. I beg you to take me with you!"

Back in those days, more than two-hundred years ago, a lengthy horse-and-wagon journey was not only difficult, but dangerous as well. The Chassidim doubted that a little boy could withstand the hardships of such a trip. They refused to take him along. They all climbed aboard the waiting horse-drawn wagon, ready to begin their trip.

Little Nachman refused to give up. He closed his eyes tightly and whispered, "Please, Hashem, do me this one favor! I long to see the face of the great tzaddik. Let the Chassidim have pity on me, so they’ll take me with them." While little Nachman prayed, he stood in front of the horses and wagon to prevent them from departing.

Rebbe Chaim Krosner was impressed by little Nachman’s desire to visit the tzaddik, so he grabbed him by the arm and lifted him up to the wagon. "I’ll be happy to take care of a little boy with such a strong desire for holiness. It will be my pleasure to help him reach the tzaddik in Pollnoi," said Rebbe Chaim.
