Open Our Eyes

Yosef Daniel grew up in Texas but was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, a frontier city on the Mexican-American border where drug trafficking is still the popular trade. One of Yosef’s uncles became a high-ranking officer in one of the main drug trafficking cartels in Mexico and took along with him several family members. At the age of seven, Yosef was traumatically affected when one of Yosef’s uncles was targeted, captured, and brutally murdered by a rival drug cartel. Seven years later, after revenging his brother’s murder, his uncle was extradited and put into federal penitentiary in America after being charged with drug tracking at the Mexican-American border. Ten years later, he was released back to the Mexican Federal Agency. Without much explanation, he was soon found dead. Yosef’s family was told he was in a motorcycle accident. 

In 2005, Yosef survived a drive-by shooting by a rival street gang in his neighborhood (Molina) in Corpus Christi, Texas. He claims that this episode saved his life because it caused him to search – and finally find – a higher purpose and spiritual fulfillment. Yosef and his wife converted to Judaism. With their first-born son, they moved to Israel in the summer of 2010.  

Before converting to Judaism, Yosef Daniel used his musical talents to escape from family and friends that were connected to the drug trade, partying, and gangster lifestyle.  

Yosef emerges now as a Jew in Israel, releasing his first official music video in the coolest sites in Tel Azekah and Jerusalem, Israel. “Open Our Eyes” is a song of praise to G-d for Yosef’s personal salvation. “I was broken, marked for either prison or death,” Yosef says. Yosef dedicates this song as a prayer for the nation of Israel and all the nations of the world, asking G-d to bring a complete and final redemption through music and dance.  

Yosef Daniel’s music can be found on all major platforms. His summer tour includes playing and speaking about his story in Israel, America, and Mexico.
