The Boastful Buck – Part 1

Come young readers

A trip we’ll take

To a beautiful forest

With a clear blue lake.

We’ll follow the flight

Of an old black raven

For he will lead us

To a place called Deer Haven.

If you’re looking for people

There are none here

Because we are now coming

To the land of the deer.

Here’s a clearing

With fresh water springs

And if we’re quiet

We’ll see wonderful things

We’ll soon see the deer

Pay attention if you can

For this is the home

Of Zachary’s clan.

We’ll meet big bucks

Deer fathers, you know

And swift young stags

That dart to and fro.

We’ll see deer mothers

Who we call a doe

Their young-ins are fawns

Who still need to grow.

To be continued.
