Son of Adil, the Baal Shem Tov's daughter, he was Rebbe Nachman's uncle.

A disciple of Rabbi Pinchas of Koretz, Rabbi Baruch was rabbi in Tulchin. In 1788, he moved back to Medzeboz but traveled to Tulchin for month long visits each summer and winter. His court in Medzeboz was renowned for the splendor with which it was conducted. It included the famous badchan (jester) Rabbi Hershele Ostropoler.
