The Special Spice.Rebbe Yehuda the Nasi (Prince) invited the Caesar Antoninus to a Shabbos meal in his home. The Caesar enjoyed the fine foods very much; he had never tasted anything like them. He asked Rebbe Yehuda: “What is the secret of these delicious foods?” Rebbe Yehuda answered: “A special spice.” The Caesar was astonished: “Could there be any spice in the world that is unknown to my palace chefs?” Rebbe answered: “Yes, and its name is Shabbos. Only the Jewish people have this special spice that makes the Shabbos food so delicious. Your dishes, Your Majesty, lack the spice of Shabbos, because after all, do you have Shabbos?”
