Our Real National Anthem

How can “Hatikvah” be the current national anthem of Israel – it never mentions Hashem! Let’s sing our real national anthem – Psalm 126 – to our true ruler, Hashem!

The National Anthem of True Jewish Hope

A goal that was named cannot be countermanded. – Walt Whitman

It’s time to define our movement!

Our legacy originates from Sinai, not Switzerland. Our founding father is Avraham Avinu. The Creator of our nation is Hashem. Our law is the Torah. Our destiny is His word through our prophets.

From this moment forward, the only national anthem every Jew should sing stems from the true hope of the Jewish People: Psalm 126.

Let’s go line by line and celebrate the Jewish Nation.

When God returns the captivity of Zion, we will be like dreamers.

Our current anthem1 doesn’t include Hashem. It’s a national embarrassment that the anthems of US, Canada, Britain, and even Russia invoke God’s name, but the Jewish Nation does not!

In the true anthem, we mention Hashem first and foremost.

We concede the reality that we are still in captivity. Over the past 50 years, we were forced to give up 71% of the Land God gives us, including Mount Sinai, the birthplace of our nation.

The opening line of the true Jewish anthem states with full faith that Hashem will break us out of this last exile, place us squarely in our Land spanning from the Euphrates to the Nile, rebuild the Temple, send us Mashiach, and reinstate Torah law.

All our dreams in a single line.

Then our mouths will be filled with laughter and our tongues with songs of praise;

The next lines are of gratitude to Hashem for all He does for us. We attribute the fulfillment of our hope to our King.

Then they will say among the nations, “The Lord has done great things with these.”

Our salvation comes with the guarantee that the nations of the world are helpless to prevent our liberation to God.

The Americans won’t be able to pressure us.

The UN won’t be able to condemn us.

The Europeans can’t give their money to our enemies.

Exactly like the killing of the firstborn in Egypt and our liberation hours later, the world can only watch.

The King of the world will anoint His nation – and there is nothing anyone can do about it but smile. . . and they will.

The Lord has done great things with us; we were happy.

We acknowledge that our salvation and liberation come not from high-tech, the IDF, the Mossad, or the elites of Tel Aviv.

It all comes from God.

That is why we are happy.

Return, O Lord, our captivity like water in the Negev.

We don’t ask for what’s possible, as if we are petitioning Elon Musk or Bill Gates.

We ask for the impossible. We ask the Creator of the universe Who can manipulate everything in His world as He wishes.

Even making the water burst out from the depths of the desert.

Those who sow with tears will reap with song. He will go along weeping, carrying the valuable seeds; he will come back with song, carrying his sheaves.

Even the worst moments are special. For every tear we shed over the huge void in the heart of Jerusalem, every cry we belt out over a Jew forced from his home in the Land, and every screech of horror when a Jew is prevented from being a Jew in his own home – Israel – Hashem promises reward.

Every time we cry over a Jewish tragedy will become its own blessing when our sentence of captivity by the nations of the world expires and Hashem turns our weeping into eternal joy.

This is our national song.

The next time you are anywhere, and they start singing the old anthem, at the top of your lungs, scream out the true hope of the Jewish People: To be free to proclaim Hashem the True Monarch of the Jewish Nation!

1 Hatikvah – translation

As long as in the heart, within,
The Jewish soul yearns,
And towards the ends of the east,
[The Jewish] eye gazes toward Zion,

Our hope is not yet lost,
The hope of two thousand years,
To be a free nation in our own land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
