From his wondrous birth to the many times throughout his life that he was miraculously saved, the Chida – Rav Chaim Yosef Dovid Azoulay – was no ordinary person. A tremendous tzaddik and talmid chacham of great stature and nobility, he was chosen to be the shaliach of the Jews in Chevron. For this task, he had to leave his family for years on end and travel all across Europe, collecting money for his poor brethren in Eretz Yisrael while inspiring Jews in every community that he visited.
