Pirkey Avos with Ideas and Insights of the Sfas Emes and other Chasidic masters.
Pirkei Avos is the only tractate that begins with the statement that Moses received the Torah from Sinai and transmitted it, generation after generation, to the Jews for whom it was intended. Why is this said only in Pirkei Avos? Because it is all too easy to think that the written Torah consists primarily of laws and mitzvos, and that the Oral Law controls mostly deeds, dealings, and rituals and not much more.
Character, integrity, grace, generosity, manners — these, too, emanate from Sinai, and these too, were transmitted to us by Moses and his great successors via the chain of the Mesorah.
This superlative anthology is based primarily on the writings of Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh Alter, known as the Sfas Emes, but also includes insights by other great Chassidic masters that came out of Poland. Includes the full Hebrew text of Pirkei Avos with English translation and commentary.
