Rabbi Shalom Arush explains that while sins against God are relatively easy to correct, sins against other people absolutely cannot be corrected without apologizing. Nothing else helps - not even Yom Kippur, suffering, nothing! We must be so careful to avoid them - not only during this period of counting the Omer, but the entire year!
