Only after a person has repented can he turn to Hashem with a prayer for healing.     Some serious illnesses, Hashem should save us from them, are sent down for lack of emuna, as it is written: “The basis of everything is emuna, and everyone should test himself and strengthen himself in emuna. After all, there are those who suffer from incredible ailments, undergoing various diseases only because of a loss of emuna, according to what was said: “The Lord will strike you ... powerful and faithful blows, diseases that are evil and faithful” - these are the “faithful” that occur due to the loss of faith (emuna) because the loss of faith causes such ailments, from which neither medicine, nor prayer, nor the merits of the fathers help”.     We see that a lack of emuna is the greatest sin, more than other sins and vices! It brings on the most difficult punishments - painful, incurable diseases. And only repentance and serious work on your faith can help to be healed.
