I admit being shocked by this story. This is truly a crisis – the consequences affect not only the daughter but the as-yet-unborn grandchildren.
My first thought was that a Jew who has a solid Jewish education won’t fall for the shallow, emotional appeal of Christian stories about how Jesus saved someone from [whatever]. They’ll see right through it. The Jewish nation is now paying a heavy price for weak Jewish education.
It’s interesting that the daughter is attracted to stories (so are adults!). Rebbe Nachman used stories as a vehicle to grow one’s emunah and relationship with Hashem, which is what the editor recommended.
If the daughter is looking for stories with “inspiration”, check out these books: “Daily Dose”, “Living with Miracles”, “Inspired”, anything by Rabbi Paysach Krohn (he writes wonderful stories), anything by Rabbi Nachman Seltzer (ditto about stories), any of the “102 Stories that Changed People’s Lives” series. These are amazing books; I have some of them and have reread them countless times. They never fail to give me a needed boost. The stories are all based on emuna and a close relationship with Hashem.
This situation is really a blessing as it is a loud wake-up call for the entire family.
